Peru

Peru's maritime trade is concentrated on the Pacific coast, with Callao as the main port and the new port of Chancay, north of Lima, focused on routes to Asia. Warehousing and distribution operations are organized mainly around Lima and Callao, with regional ports in the north and south.

Free zones and special regimes

Peru has four special economic zones in operation: ZOFRATACNA in Tacna and the Special Development Zones (ZED) of Paita, Ilo and Matarani, located next to their ports.

Good to know

  • SUNAT administers both domestic taxes and customs, so tax and customs matters are handled by the same agency.
  • Issuing electronic payment vouchers (invoices, receipts and notes) is mandatory for taxpayers designated by SUNAT and for those who register under the general, MYPE or special tax regimes.
  • SUNAT opened a customs office for the port of Chancay, which began operating in 2024 with 24-hour service.
